The Record Holder: 1950 World Cup Final – Brazil vs Uruguay

The largest crowd in soccer history gathered at Maracanã Stadium for the 1950 FIFA World Cup Final. Hosted in Rio de Janeiro, the match was expected to crown Brazil world champions—but Uruguay’s shocking victory silenced nearly 200,000 fans in what became known as the Maracanazo.
To this day, no officially recorded soccer match has surpassed this attendance.

That said, modern soccer still delivers unmatched atmosphere—just packed tighter, louder, and more controlled.
